Frequently Asked Questions

Real answers to the questions I hear most about natural pain relief, arnica, turmeric, black seed oil, and my handmade salves.

What is arnica salve used for?

Arnica is a mountain flower that herbalists have used on the skin for generations. People reach for arnica salve for sore muscles, bruises, and everyday bumps from an active life. I blend it into every jar of Alora Grove salve.

How do I use pain relief salve?

Scoop a small amount with clean dry fingers and massage it into the area where you want comfort. A little goes a long way. Reapply as needed through the day.

How often can I apply it?

Most people apply two to three times a day, or whenever comfort fades. Listen to your body and your skin.

How fast does it work?

Everyone is different. Many people notice a soothing feeling within minutes of massaging it in, especially the wintergreen version with its cooling sensation. Deeper comfort builds with steady daily use.

What is the difference between your wintergreen and regular salve?

The wintergreen version gives a cooling sensation many people love on tired muscles. The regular version has the same arnica, turmeric, and black seed oil base without the cooling feel, which some people prefer for daily use or sensitive skin. Try both and see which your body likes.

What is black seed oil and why is it in the salve?

Black seed oil is pressed from the seeds of the Nigella sativa plant and has been used in traditional wellness practices for centuries. I add it for its skin loving fatty acids and long history of use in comfort recipes.

How does turmeric help with stiffness?

Turmeric is the golden spice behind many traditional comfort recipes. Its active compound curcumin has been widely studied for how it interacts with the body's inflammatory response. In the salve it works alongside arnica as part of the plant based formula.

Can I use the salve with my other medications?

Topical salves stay on the skin, but everyone is different. If you take prescription medications, especially blood thinners, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding any new product to your routine. Natural support works best as a partner to your care team, not a replacement.

Is it safe on broken skin?

No. Apply only to unbroken skin. If you have a cut, scrape, or rash, let it heal first.

Is it safe during pregnancy?

If you are pregnant or nursing, check with your healthcare provider before using any herbal product, including this one.

How should I store my salve?

Keep your jar in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. With clean dry hands each time, your salve stays fresh for about a year.

Where is Alora Grove salve made?

Every jar is handmade by me in Michigan in small batches. I make what I would reach for myself, because that is exactly how Alora Grove started.
